The Golden Age

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Golden Age from BMG Rights Management on Vimeo.

The Heineken commercial with this song in it is pretty sweet but it's only one minute long. Here is the full version for that good ol' spring-summertime mischief.

Sprung Spring

Spring is definitely showering in New York - hello daily 60 degree thunderstorms! so wild! - and nothing makes one feel the bringing of May flowers is absolutely imminent quite like the musical (re)styling of Portland, Oregon-based Typhoon frontman Kyle Morton and Wild Ones frontwoman Danielle Sullivan. And, of course, Springsteen.

The Fugees Effect

The Fugees Family is a non profit organization based in Clarkston, Georgia that helps child survivors of war rebuild their lives after resettlement. When refugee children arrive in the United States, they are place in age appropriate class rooms regardless of their level of formal education or English. In Clarkston, only 36% of English language learners graduate from high school. With a more appropriate educational plan for refugee children, this number can be turned around, which is exactly what the Fugees Family is trying to do. Last year we purchased 19 acres of land on which we will be building the first school for refugees in the country. The goal is to have the doors to the Fugees Academy open by fall 2012, but for this to happen we must raise $5million by July.
This fundraising effort will be the first million mobile movement in history. We need 1 million supporters to donation $5 each by texting FUGEES to 20222. Please, watch The Fugees Effect. Text your donation. And share the video and/or the Fugees story with your friends.
Give up your coffee today and truly make a difference in the lives of hundreds - Text FUGEES to 20222 now to make your $5 donation.

Worldwide Underground

I just happened to come across an Erykah Badu poster for an upcoming show in Dubai and was immediately struck by the integration of Middle Eastern culture and tradition into the poster design - the burqa, the ubiquitous date palm, the arabic script, the minaret (and Dubai's infamous landmarks: the Burj Kalifa and the Burj al Arab). I dig it. I suppose this isn't some novel idea but I never really gave much thought to concert poster in a global context (and I wanted share these sick designs with yallz). I searched for a few more Badu posters from shows around the world. Below are a few that stood out for their unique integration of motifs, symbols, and even political messages (i.e. Russia) that are representative of their distinctive cultures.
More posters from the artist, Emek, who designed the Israel, Nigeria, and Russia posters can be found here.
