This is the first time I have blogged...so here goes. I am a horrible author but they tell me that this is a judge free zone. My name is Chase and I got my undergraduate degree in Marketing so I find it fitting for my first post to be on the Super Bowl ads. Side-note, I am in no way involved in advertising so my viewpoint on these ads is just as valid as yours:
I am sure that most of you know the story behind the Doritos ads. They are all consumer generated and voted upon. The top three make it into the Super Bowl and if they are chosen as the best commercials in the Super Bowl, the creator gets a generous amount of dough. The one above is possibly my least favorite of the Doritos ads but still funny. This was the crowd favorite at the second party I attended. I think this one is my favorite out of the Doritos ads. Frito Lay owns both Pepsi and Doritos. I am not sure if the Pepsi commercials are consumer generated also or what their deal is specifically. But I do know that these are pretty damn funny as well. Is it bad that I thought this was a commercial for a dating website before the guy started talking? I am surprised that they got away with saying, "I want to sleep with her" on national television. Then again those GoDaddy.com commercials are fairly provocative. I am not adding them to this post because I am lazy, so look them up if you are curious. Ahhhhh this one had so much potential! I feel like Eminem fucked it up at the end, "This is the motor city, this is what we do"? Are you kidding me? For Chrysler's sake! Along the same lines, Eminem devaluing his household name. Am I completely off base for thinking this one is just lame as well? Classic! Now are you going to remember the sponsor 10 minutes from now? My guess is nay. Can you imagine how much money they spent on the production of this? The funny thing is that since Hyundai had SOOOO many advertisements in this years Bowl, I thought that this was a Hyundai the entire time. I hope the execs from Kia are satisfied with that brand association. Absolutely adorable. However, "the new guy" at work brought up a valid question: "How much did VW have to pay George Lucas for the rights to that song?" Well played Chevy. I can see some people finding this ad annoying, but I thought it was kind of clever. What did you guys think? There is no way you were not humming this song after this commercial ended (if you were paying attention). Hyundai is trying so hard to change their brand image! It is such a difficult thing to do. For one of our capstone courses in my marketing program we had to spend a semester developing a marketing strategy to help get Hyundai's brand image to where they think it should be. After putting in hours of research I have found that the car manufacture is ACTUALLY putting out a quality vehicle now. However, how do you get an entire country to finally believe that? Toyota did it. Before I was born Toyota's had the reputation that Hyundai does now. Even with the recent manufacturer defects, they still have a very high brand value. What do you think of Hyundai? Has your perception of them changed? Okay there were a lot more ads but I am done writing for the day. Make me feel good and comment on my first blog post. Okay good day
My favorite ones were the doritos house sitting, and the volkswagen force one. Both broke the smile barrier and received laughs
